Gerald Segal, M.S.

Chief Information Architect
NYS Psychiatric Institute

Gerry Segal has been the Chief Information Architect at New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI) since 1996. NYSPI affiliated with Columbia University and New York Presbyterian Hospital is the oldest psychiatric research facility in the nation with an annual research budget of over seventy million dollars.

Mr. Segal has over 20 years experience in management of Information systems. He has extensive experience in electronic communications in the fields of medical research and education and has overall responsibility for planning and implementation of all network-based systems at NYSPI. Current projects include: Psychiatric Telemedicine for Rural New York; Placing InfoButtons resources into the New York State Mental Health Automated Record System; and the installation of a comprehensive network to support the demands of large scale brain imaging research projects.

Mr. Segal is an affiliated faculty member of the Columbia University Department of Medical Informatics. He is presently the Chair of the Election Committee of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM); was a participant in the 1997 Medical Informatics Fellowship Program of the National Library of Medicine. His article “Psychiatric Telemedicine for Rural New York” appears in the July 2001 issue of the Journal Psychiatric Practice. Another article “The Computerized Medical Record” appears in the November 1997 Issue of the Journal of Practical Psychiatry and Behavioral Health.
